Cardiovascular magnetic resonance in familial amyloidosis
نویسنده
چکیده
Methods Our objective was to identify morphological and functional findings of familial amyloidosis in Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance and compare this findings between asymptomatic patients and those with cardiovascular symptoms. Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance was performed in 19 patients with familiar amyloidosis, 9 of them with cardiovascular symptoms, the remaining 10 were asymptomatic. The diagnosis of amyloidosis was previously done by periumbilical fat biopsy and genetic studies.

Magnetic resonance imaging in cardiac amyloidosis.
The amyloidoses are a group of uncommon systemic diseases characterized by the extracellular deposition of pathologic insoluble amyloid protein in organs and tissues. The are 4 main types of amyloidosis: primary (AL, the most prevalent type), familial, secondary, and senile. Each of them has its own physiopathology, distinctive features, and variable cardiac involvement. The symptoms of cardiac...

The sensitivity and specificity of structural assessment of the heart by echocardiography in black hypertensive patients presenting with symptoms of heart failure is often incomplete. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance, mainly by virtue of its ability to characterize myocardial tissue composition, may be of value in differentiating some of the common pathologies noninvasively. We present an ...
متن کاملCardiovascular Magnetic Resonance and prognosis in cardiac amyloidosis
BACKGROUND Cardiac involvement is common in amyloidosis and associated with a variably adverse outcome. We have previously shown that cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) can assess deposition of amyloid protein in the myocardial interstitium. In this study we assessed the prognostic value of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) and gadolinium kinetics in cardiac amyloidosis in a prospective lo...
متن کاملPrognostic Value of Late Gadolinium Enhancement Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance in Cardiac Amyloidosis
BACKGROUND The prognosis and treatment of the 2 main types of cardiac amyloidosis, immunoglobulin light chain (AL) and transthyretin (ATTR) amyloidosis, are substantially influenced by cardiac involvement. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance with late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) is a reference standard for the diagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis, but its potential for stratifying risk is unknown. ...

Parametric mapping techniques provide a non-invasive tool for quantifying tissue alterations in myocardial disease in those eligible for cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). Parametric mapping with CMR now permits the routine spatial visualization and quantification of changes in myocardial composition based on changes in T1, T2, and T2*(star) relaxation times and extracellular volume (ECV)...
